Carrickfergus Academy School boy Scott Swann had a dream start to the BSB Motostar GP class with two podiums on his IFS KTM at the traditional May Day Bank Holiday Bennetts British Superbike Championship round at Oulton Park last weekend.

16 year old Swann got his weekend off to a steady start on Saturday morning, on his first time out on the bike he finished the opening free practice session in 7th position.  With a few small changes to the bike and suspension, free practice two went well with Scott moving up to 4th position at the close and happy with the bike.
Qualifying on Sunday morning was to start in tricky wet, but drying conditions and after a few steady laps to check the track Scott pulled into pit lane for a change to slick tyres.  With only a few minutes left Scott moved up into the top 3 changing places from 1st to 3rd and on the very last lap was squeezed into 4th place and a second row start position for race one.

Race one started of well with Scott getting a good start and after the first lap he was circulating with the leading group of 5.  In the closing stages Paash held a slender lead with Swann Nixon and Durham fighting for second.  The battle was to continue right until the last lap where Scott after a few brave moves, battled through to second place at the line.  With a fastest lap of the race setting him up for pole position for race two.

Race 2 was a similar affair. Starting from pole Scott had a good start slotting into second place, with American Brandon Paash, Dan Jones, Swann and Jack Nixon all trading places. Nixon took a big highside on lap 2 leaving three riders in the lead group. At two thirds distance Asher Durham caught the three as they proceeded to swap places for the lead.  The last few corners of the last lap saw the group of four hit a large group of back markers.

All four riders made moves in the last corner with a close outcome to the line of Paash, Jones and Swann thirdScott commented, “This is one of the best weekends in BSB, I love riding the IFS Grand Prix KTM with the extra power, it suits me a lot better having grown a lot since last year.  I’m so grateful to Graeme Hannah for getting the bike and it was even better to get these results with him here this weekend, no pressure!  The races where so much fun, I knew no one was getting away so I tried to stay steady then push hard on the last lap, unfortunately we hit a lot of back markers which made it difficult.  I learnt a lot in those two races and how the other guys ride, we worked hard over the winter on certain riding areas of riding and it’s amazing to get these results first time out.  Thanks to Dad and Fergie for getting the bike nice to ride and to Simon King for working his magic on the laptop and getting the KTM dialled in.  Also to Ivan Kerr and Mark King for their help with a last minute clutch problem just before race one.  Big thanks to one of our title sponsors Michael Atkinson MTA for organising and supplying our Team gear, we love it.  Now I absolutely can’t wait for Brands GP and getting back of the KTM.”
