Harper Launches 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Campaign
Daniel Harper unveiled his stunning challenger for the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup GB during the championship’s media day at Silverstone on Monday (12th March), before going on to showcase hugely promising pace during two days of official testing.
The 2018/19 Porsche GB Junior driver’s GT3 Cup car has a striking red, blue and white livery to highlight headline sponsor IFS Global Logistics, and the new design is sure to catch the eye this season as it features during the championship’s live television coverage on ITV4.
Alongside IFS Global Logistics, the Antrim-based freight, courier and logistics experts, the livery also features the logo of a welcome new backer in fonaCAB, who are one of the largest providers of taxi services in Northern Ireland.
The Silverstone media day not only featured a number of photoshoots and media interviews ahead of the new campaign, but it also gave Harper his first opportunity to get behind the wheel of his new car after the recent snow forced his planned first test to be postponed.
Tackling the 1.64 mile Silverstone national circuit in tricky wet weather conditions, the Northern Irishman would go on to post more laps than anyone else as he got to grips with his car, eventually ending the day in the top five overall.
Testing continued the next day (Tuesday 13th March) at Donington Park, with Harper continuing his strong start against the rest of the 2018 entry as more promising pace saw him finish in the top five on the timesheets once again in his JTR machine.
After accumulating almost three hundred miles of running across the two days, the seventeen year old is looking forward to getting some more testing under his belt before the opening rounds of the championship at Brands Hatch on 7/8 April.
Daniel Harper: “I’ve been waiting a long time to get back behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, so it felt fantastic to get some first tests under my belt in my JTR car. I immediately felt at home in the car and I feel really encouraged by the pace we showed.
“It was great to be working with the JTR team and my new team-mates for the first time. We’ve got plenty of experience within the engineering team, while all my team-mates have competed in the series before, which should help me with my progression this year.
“I know I’m biased, but I feel my 2018 livery is one of the most eye-catching on the grid and hopefully it will be prominent on the ITV4 coverage this year as we aim to battle at the front of the field. Thank you to MDM Designs for putting the new livery together.
“It’s brilliant to have IFS Global Logistics back for 2018 and I can’t thank them enough for their continued support, while I’m also really happy to welcome fonaCAB to the team alongside Daily Bake and McGaughey Distribution. I hope we all can enjoy a successful 2018 season together.”
